A Glimpse of Hope (Short Film) Review – Ukrainian Refugee Story by Brandon Brody Kim

By: Olivia Moxley

A Glimpse of Hope, directed by Brandon Brody Kim, is a short documentary that captures the resilience and courage of Ukrainian refugees with clarity and emotional care. In partnership with Mission for Ukraine, and featuring the lived experiences of those displaced by Russia’s war, the film focuses less on statistics and more on the people behind the headlines.

Through interviews with refugees and volunteers, Kim weaves together personal stories of survival while highlighting the critical support Mission for Ukraine provides to hospitals and communities affected by conflict. His work as director, producer, cinematographer, and editor shapes a cohesive narrative that honors the couple and community on screen rather than overshadowing them.

What stands out most is how Kim presents these stories with compassion and precision, allowing small moments of dignity, grief, and solidarity to speak for themselves. A Glimpse of Hope becomes not only a portrait of loss and resilience, but also a call to recognize how collective action and community care can make a real difference in the lives of refugees.
