Μια ιστορία περιβαλλοντικής αειφορίας από τα υψίπεδα Gamo της Αιθιοπίας

Του Rishi Mulloth

The people of the Gamo Highlands of the African Rift Valley are a unique group that has been isolated from the modern world, but have remained culturally and biologically unscathed. These people have been growing their society for 10,000 χρόνια, and have done so in a sustainable manner, living with their surroundings rather than in spite of them.

From Director Stephen Marshall, Χίλιοι Ήλιοι (curated for the Planet Classroom Network by the Global Oneness Project) is a short documentary that follows this community. We learn about the cultural practices that have enabled them to create a successful society. Their story shows how they have been able to live off the land responsibly and at the same time respect the beautiful environment around them. Σε αντίθεση, the film conveys the complacency of the modern world towards the destruction of our natural surroundings when compared to the people in this community.

Marshall tells an important story that helps illustrate how farming and building a civilization can be done sustainably without destroying the surrounding environment. This film will expose audiences to a group of people they may likely have never heard of, and their fascinating and inspiring way of life. Εξάλλου, the story will be invaluable for audiences to learn about sustainability and better ways to connect with nature. I highly recommend the film. I give it 4.5 έξω από 5 αστέρια.
