This short yet inspiring documentary produced & narrated by Sahana Garrett showcases the inspirational story of Ann Johnson and her journey through the trials and tribulations of losing her speech. Ann was living with the debilitating effects of a traumatic brainstem stroke leaving her unable to move or speak. This devastated her and her newly wedded husband, who couldn’t carry a conversation with her, walk with her holding hands, or laugh together at a movie.
This was until AI was used by researchers to analyze brainwaves and coordinate them with her muscles to see and communicate what she was trying to say. The AI then displayed her communications on computer screens. Not only did these researchers end up learning how to analyze such critical data, they even trained the AI to sound exactly like her to further integrate her thoughts into her and her husband’s everyday life. This story inspires empathy, determination, and hope for anyone facing disability—whether personally or through a loved one.
⭐ Rating: 5 out of 5 stars – A tender, inspiring story of determination and hope
