Somalia’s Climate Struggle Needs a Stronger Voice

By Serena Wooten

Climate Crisis: Somalia’s Path to Resilience is an empowering film in which producer Lauren Prost brings to life the struggles of the country Somalia to overcome disastrous events due to climate change and terrorism that seek to tear apart their land.

While this film has powerful imagery and direct quotes that draw the viewer in to the triumphant story of Somalia, the film falls short in its ability to fully immerse viewers into the narrative due to a critical lack of testimonials; there is an attempt at ethos through the inclusion of quotes from locals on their lives within Somalia and the state of their home, but including a clip or two where we get to meet these characters would have made the conflict that much more real and visceral.

Overall, Prost does a good job at introducing the triumphs of Somalia, yet more could have been done with this film to make it that much more spectacular.
