VR and a Mother’s Eternal Love

By: Alex Silverman

Eternal Love: Jang Ji-Sung’s Journey, produced by Pierce Magnant, is a deeply emotional short film exploring how virtual reality (VR) offered one grieving mother a final moment with her child.

In 2016, Jang Ji-Sung lost her daughter, Na-yeon, to a rare blood cancer. In 2023, thanks to the work of MBC and Vive Studios, she experienced a virtual reunion with her daughter. The team created a lifelike VR avatar of Na-yeon, allowing Jang to see, hear, and interact with her child once more. That moment gave her not only peace, but also global recognition for what VR could mean for grief therapy.

This short film showcases the powerful intersection of love, technology, and healing. It raises important ethical questions, but its emotional impact is undeniable.
