The Global Search for Education: A Global Checklist for Innovating Learning

Over 1.2 billion children have been out of the classroom since COVID-19 closed schools globally. Education had to change dramatically over the past few months. The OECD’s new report, Schooling Disrupted, School Rethought, authored by Fernando M. Reimers at HGSE and Andreas Schleicher at OECD surveyed 59 countries’ responses to COVID-19 school closures, revealing that only half of students have been able to access all or most of the curriculum through remote learning materials.

Effective at-home learning begins with access to technology. The digital divide exists everywhere, from low-income countries to wealthy nations such as the US and UK. In addition, teachers had to innovate their learning methods. Parents and caregivers had to become teachers. The report contains a global checklist for innovating learning during the next phase of the pandemic. We share highlights from the checklist here:
