Sepsis is a condition that can hide in plain sight, with symptoms that often appear mild but signal a rapidly escalating medical emergency. In Can AI Help Doctors Catch Sepsis Before It’s Too Late?, Kaylee Cordray explores how artificial intelligence is being used to detect those early warning signs.
The film introduces Sepsis ImmunoScore, developed by Prenosis, an AI-driven tool that analyzes approximately 22 bedside and lab signals to identify patients at risk of sepsis earlier in the care process. The system has been evaluated in peer-reviewed research, including NEJM AI, and in 2024 became the first FDA-authorized AI/ML software designed to help predict and diagnose sepsis.
By highlighting how earlier detection can lead to faster treatment and improved outcomes, the film offers a clear and hopeful perspective on how AI can support clinicians in high-stakes environments.
