C.M. Rubin’s Global Education Report

Could the traditional rows of desks and chalkboard-centered classrooms soon become a relic of a bygone age?  Open learning spaces enhance the opportunities for group discussions, collaborative project learning, and individual student training. Allan Kjær Andersen knows this.  He was the Principal of Ørestad Gymnasium (OG) in Copenhagen, a school globally renowned for its open learning spaces and emphasis on a 21st century digital learning curriculum. He joined us in The Global Search for Education this month to talk about lessons learned from the past that are inspiring his school of the future.

Since 2009, Design for Change, based in India, has focused on creating learning environments that balance academic programs with character development. Their program focuses on problem-solving and critical thinking skills combined with teaching strategies that promote empathy. Kiran Bir Sethi, founder of Design for Change, believes an “I can” mindset will always empower students to do their best work. Her 4-step ‘Feel, Imagine, Do, Share’ framework (FIDS) is designed to foster imagination and innovation. The Global Search for Education welcomed Kiran Bir Sethi to discuss how the program is helping children make the world a better place.

Will all students one day have the opportunity to explore the world from within their classroom walls? Worldwide shipments for augmented reality and virtual reality headsets will grow to 68.9 million units in 2022, with a five-year compound annual growth rate of 52.5%, according to the latest forecast from the International Data Corporation Worldwide Quarterly Augmented and Virtual Reality Headset Tracker. Ever seen the level of engagement achieved when kids and adults play video games?

Michael Bodekaer Jensen has a passion for bridging the gap between education and technology by providing access to unique education opportunities to students. His company, Labster, involves virtual lab simulations for educators to empower their Biology, Chemistry, and Physics students. The Global Search for Education welcomed Michael to share his perspectives on the future of virtual simulations and virtual reality in learning environments.

Kill sharks and you kill the marine ecosystem,” says William McKeever, whose ground-breaking book,  Emperors of the Deep, reveals new research on why these magnificent creatures are essential to maintaining the health of our planet. In his book, McKeever interviews world renowned shark experts, and for the first time, shares perspectives on the integral role sharks play in maintaining our marine ecosystem. Tragically, these guardians of the ocean are on a path toward extinction from both human hunters and climate change. What can we do to protect them? William McKeever joined The Global Search for Education to share his perspectives.
