Carol Comes to America

By: Amanda Tuccillo

Moving away from home is an extremely tough decision. Moving to another country on the opposite side of the world, far away from your family, friends, and anyone you’ve ever known is an even tougher one.

Carol, directed by May-Lynn Le, features the story of a young woman named Carol who leaves her home and family in Shanghai, China to come to the United States of America to pursue her dreams of creating art. This beautifully put together short film features many of Carol’s artworks, paintings, sketches, and designs that she has produced since her journey as an artist began.

The thoughtful voiceovers and scene transitions coupled with the soft piano music in the background provide insight into Carol’s decision to leave her family behind and come to America. She will be considered an inspiration to those who are nervous about leaving home, who think outside the box, and who dream of pursuing their passions.

I think Carol is an amazing short film that was gracefully edited to create a perfect story that will be both entertaining and inspiring for its audience.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars.
