Can Basalt Rocks Help Solve Climate Change?

By: Jailene Kontz

Solutions for climate change and the accumulating CO2 in the atmosphere are needed as soon as possible due to climate change rapidly impacting the Earth. The video, Could Basalt Rocks Help Solve Climate Change? by Charlie Parker, Tiffani Stitz, and Dana Santillana, highlights the use of basalt rocks as a climate change solution through processes like enhanced weathering and mineral carbonation. Basalt rocks can help capture and store carbon dioxide (CO2) by reacting with water and CO2, locking it away in soil or underground. Further research is being conducted to explore their effectiveness and safety measures. The scientific research is presented very clearly in the video and is aided by appropriate visual aids. The narration is clear and goes well with the on screen visuals provided. Even if the audience does not fully understand these scientific studies, the video makes the concepts accessible and easy to understand.

I give this film 4 out of 5.
