Amelia (the Twin): The Discovery of Self-worth

By: Esmeralda Hernandez De La Torre

Amelia (the Twin) is a short film written and directed by the Montgomery Brothers (Ethan and Luke). The story illustrates the struggles the main character Amelia (played by Emery Gordon) faces with trying to discover what makes her unique from her twin sister (also played by Emery Gordon). It takes the audience through Amelia’s journey, from her daily routine with her twin sister to exploring different ways to make herself stand out and fit in with her classmates. She eventually discovers that she does not need to change herself to be unique. The actors and the scenes in the film did an excellent job of expressing the emotions the characters were feeling, which makes the film more relatable for people.

The music in the different scenes added to the story and helped the audience understand Amelia’s feelings throughout the film. Additionally, the use of side characters helps the  audience see why Amelia feels lost and confused and what she needs to figure out about herself.
I think the Montgomery brothers do a great job with Amelia (the Twin) in telling a story that everyone can relate to. The struggles faced by Amelia are the same as those many young people are dealing with, i.e. trying to find ways to fit in, dealing with peer pressure and being accepted by everyone.

I would give this film 5/5 stars.
